1st July 2012 was the occasion of the Knights Templar Province of Surrey’s fifth annual BBQ. The first three years were in glorious sunshine; last year the heavens opened; this year it was showery and chilly with pullovers and fleeces being the order of the day.

The BBQ was held in the garden of the Provincial Prior in Outwood and around 80 Knights, their friends and families attended. Visitors were greeted by the Prior and his wife with a choice of wine, beer or Pimms, the latter proving extremely popular with ‘gallons’ of it being consumed by the end of the afternoon!

The BBQ consisted of meat supplied by a Surrey master butcher with handmade sausages and beef burgers and some glorious lamb cutlets, all cooked to perfection by Knight Jim of Nutfield Preceptory. In fact, despite having provided food for 100 visitors, there wasn’t any left by the end of the day. Immediately after the conclusion of the BBQ, the helpers started preparing for and serving the cream tea, consisting of delicious scones, jam and cream.

Interspersed with the eating and drinking, visitors spent the afternoon chatting to their friends and looking round the Prior’s garden, aviaries and koi pond, all to the quiet accompaniment of light music. The afternoon ended with a raffle, the proceeds of the afternoon going to support the Order’s charity, The Eye Hospital in Jerusalem.

Our thanks go out to all those who supported the event and especially those who helped by putting up and taking down the gazebos, tables and chairs, serving out the drinks and food and generally being helpful wherever they could. Thank you very much.

Very special thanks go to Garry, Carole and Michelle who organised everything and provided the food and the music and Jim who cooked the BBQ. Without their help and expertise the event could not have taken place.
