A visit to St Michael At Bisley Preceptory
In June, St Michael at Bisley Preceptory No 693, meeting at the Bisley Masonic Hall, were pleased to welcome the Provincial Prior of Surrey, R.E. Knight Patrick Crossan, along with a number of Provincial Officers of the year.

After the Preceptory was opened the Provincial Marshal, E.Kt, Chris Eley, entered and advised the Eminent Preceptor, E.Kt. Paul Kerswell, ProvBB, that the Provincial Prior of Surrey was in the ante room and demanded admission. The Provincial Prior entered in procession, was offered the baton and took the Chair.

The Provincial Prior was saluted with 7 to which he responded warmly. He said how much he was looking forward to the afternoon’s meeting and the festive board afterwards. He introduced the Provincial Team, took the minutes and vacated the Chair.

The next item on the agenda was to carry out a demonstration of the Installation of a Knight. At that point our Provincial Prior said he had to leave to carry out some urgent business, which concerned the Knights present. The Preceptory Marshal, E.Kt. Miguel Godfrey, Provincial 1st Herald, said that during the demonstration he would be explaining the correct way to conduct the ceremony and why we do this. He then retired to bring in the Candidate.

The door opened and we saw that the Candidate was our Provincial Prior.

The demonstration was performed in a faultless manner by the Eminent Preceptor, E.Kt. Paul Kerswell, ably assisted by the Marshal, E.Kt. Miguel Godfrey.

The Eminent Preceptor invited the Provincial Prior to present a Knights of Malta Certificate to Knight Martin Mace, which was done in his very special way.

The Provincial Prior was then presented with a cheque for £500 on behalf of the St John’s Eye Hospital, which was very gratefully received. The Eminent Preceptor invited Kt. Graham McGlashen to make a presentation of a beautiful carved wooden jewel box made by his stepson, Jimmy Rogers. The Provincial Prior said that he ‘admired the ability displayed in the execution of the work, such ingenuity deserves encouragement’. It is hoped to bring this along to the Annual Meeting in July.

The Provincial Prior attended by his officers then retired in procession from the Preceptory. After the Preceptory was closed the Provincial Prior happily posed for photographs with the Eminent Preceptor, the Preceptory Marshal and the Provincial Prelate.
