Provincial Priory of Malta meeting
In September, the Provincial Priory of Malta meeting was held at the Surbiton Masonic Hall under the Banner of Emmaus Preceptory No 446.
The afternoon began with a meeting of Emmaus Preceptory. The Eminent Preceptor, E.Kt. Prof. Denis May, PProvReg, welcomed the Brother Knights and Visitors to the Preceptory.
E.Kt. Peter Brown, Provincial Sub-Prior, was saluted with 5 and RE.Kt. Michael Banbury was saluted with 7. The Provincial Prior entered the Preceptory, was greeted by the Eminent Preceptor and was saluted with 7 under the direction of the Provincial Marshal.
A ballot was taken for a joining Knight, E.Kt. Alan Brockwell. This proved in his favour and E.Kt. Alan was welcomed into the Preceptory by the Eminent Preceptor and into the Province by the Provincial Prior. Also at the meeting was a visitor from the Province of Middlesex, E.Kt. Robbie Dobbie, who received a warm welcome to the Province of Surrey.
The Preceptory was then closed and the Temple prepared for a meeting of Knights of Malta. The Provincial Prior, the Provincial Sub-Prior and Provincial Officers entered the Temple and took their places at the Pentagonal Table. The Provincial Prior invited the Provincial Sub-Prior to open a Chapter of Provincial Priory of Surrey in the Order of Knights of Malta.
While Provincial Priory was being opened the Degree of Knight of St Paul was being conferred on the Candidate by VE.Kt. Chris Cradock, Past Provincial Sub Prior, assisted by E.Kt. Rev Len Moreton, Provincial Chaplain, in his new robes, and E.Kt. Tim Ford, Provincial Deputy Mareschal.
The Provincial Sub-Prior conducted the Ceremony of installation. Knight William Chapman was admitted a member of the Order by the Provincial Sub-Prior and the Officers of Provincial Priory, ably assisted with the Banners by the members of the Provincial Prior’s Bodyguard.
Grateful thanks must go to those Officers who stood in at the Pentagonal and Octagonal Tables; as well as E.Kt. Angus Rhodes, who acted as Provincial Deputy Mareschal while our Provincial Deputy Mareschal, E.Kt. Tim Ford, was busy taking the Candidate round the Priory.
The Historical Address was excellently delivered by E.Kt. Dr Miguel Godfrey, Provincial Chancellor. After the Ceremony, Knight William was congratulated and welcomed into the Priory by the Provincial Prior who explained in a most interesting way the background to our Order.
Following the ceremony, the Provincial Malta Officers of the year 2019 – 2020 were appointed and invested by the Provincial Prior.
The Provincial Sub-Prior and the Officers of the Pentagonal and Octagonal Tables retired in procession under the direction of the Provincial Mareschal, E.Kt. Chris Eley. Afterwards the Knights of Emmaus Preceptory and their many guests dined together at the Surbiton Masonic Hall.
After the toasts the members of the Provincial Prior’s Bodyguard presented VE.Kt. Chris Cradock with a gift in recognition for all the work he had done as Provincial Sub Prior over the past few years.
