A special meeting of the Provincial Priory of Malta
The first Surrey Provincial Priory of Malta meeting in two years was held at the Surbiton Masonic Hall following the meeting of Emmaus Preceptory No 446. Joining us was V.E.Kt. Stephen J Warwick, the Great Sub-Prior of Malta.

The Provincial Prior, R.E.Kt. Patrick P Crossan, the Provincial Sub-Prior. E.Kt. Peter Brown, and Provincial Officers entered the Temple and took their places at the Pentagonal Table. The Provincial Prior invited the Provincial Sub-Prior to open a Chapter of Provincial Priory of Surrey in the Order of Knights of Malta in full form. The Provincial Prior was saluted under the direction of the Provincial Mareschal, E.Kt. Chris Eley.

The Provincial Prior welcomed the Great Sub-Prior who said what a delight it was to be able to attend a Malta meeting again after so long. The Great Sub-Prior was saluted under the direction of the Provincial Mareschal.

After the minutes of the 2019 meeting had been approved the Provincial Prior confirmed the Provincial Officers in the Order of Malta for the year 2020-21. The Provincial Officers in the Order of Malta for the year 2021-22 were then presented to the Provincial Prior and invested.

After ten years as Provincial Mareschal, E.Kt. Chris Eley is handing over that responsibility to E.Kt. Tim Ford. The Provincial Prior thanked E.Kt. Chris for all he had done for the Province over the past ten years.

The Provincial Prior then addressed the meeting. He said how good it was that we could at last be together, but we should remember and look after those who for one reason or another were not able to be with us.

He spoke about our on-going commitment to the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group and thanked all those Brother Knights and Preceptories who had given so generously. Many have also qualified for the Swift lapel pin which is the symbol of the 20 4 2020 appeal. In recognition of this the Provincial Priory of Surrey has earned a swift award. It is planned for this award to visit as many Preceptories as possible over the next year.

The Provincial Prior ended his address by again thanking E.Kt. Chris Eley for his support for the Provincial Priory of Surrey for many years and he had much pleasure in presenting him with a gift of a bottle of fine wine and a lovely flowering orchid for his wife, Brenda.

The Priory was then closed in full form and the Provincial Prior, accompanied by the Great Sub-Prior and the Provincial Officers, retired in procession.

Afterwards the Brother Knights and their guests enjoyed a most convivial meal together at the Surbiton Masonic Hall.
